2011 Census Opportunities

Capita are recruiting for a number of Address Checkers across England and Wales on short term contracts (May to August 2010). Address Checkers will spend much of their time working outside, and the main objective of the job is to help build an accurate address register for posting out census questionnaires. Address Checkers will verify addresses from supplied lists and maps, taking details, adding any new addresses and updating any that have been recorded incorrectly. You will need to have the confidence to talk to a range of people, from householders to hospital managers.

Address Checkers

Full-time (37 hours a week) and part-time (25 hours a week) UK-wide

About the role

You will be checking addresses from lists and maps to make sure the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has the right information for posting out and tracking 2011 Census questionnaires. Working flexibly, including evenings and weekends you will be travelling round a specific area, using your powers of observation, talking to residents, taking details, adding any new addresses and updating any that have been recorded incorrectly. As well as having the use of a car, you will need to be comfortable getting out and about and the confidence to talk to a range of people, from householders to hospital managers.

What is the census?

In England and Wales the census is planned and carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). A census in England and Wales is run every ten years. Every household is asked to complete a census questionnaire. This information is used by ONS to provide population estimates which government, local authorities and other organisations use to fund, plan and deliver public services such as healthcare, education, housing and transport. If you can spare some time to help us gather the information we need, you could help to change things for the better.
